Challenges conveying life changing projects and Nemawashi

This is my first article on Linkedin about Nemawashi. In this article I explain the problem that often arises when management has to convey sometimes life changing messages to their employees regarding big projects. Normally management knows well before the employees which changes are coming. That means they are well on their way on the Change Curve on accepting this change but the employees might get a chock when they hear the news. Management often do not understand why it such a big problem because they have had more time to digest and accept the new situation. This poses a challenge.

The answer to this challenge I argue could very well be the action of Nemawashi. Behind this Japanese term lies the idea of preparing the soil before planting a new plant. That means prepare the whole organization before the change and listen to and ask for support for the change. But read for yourself and see what you think about this communication and change challenge.

Please comment, discuss or argue all you like. This is why I have written these articles which are called "Thoughts from the Gemba".
